The Week Ahead: Week 5

Adam Ford

It’s time for the Razorbacks to turn the page on Saturday’s 24-14 win over Auburn and focus on a huge game against Texas A&M in Arlington this weekend.

You can forgive Razorback fans for lingering a bit, because Auburn coach Hugh Freeze certainly did, saying on a coach’s show Monday night that if his Tigers had nine more cracks at the Hogs, they’d win all of them:

This is a ridiculous thing to say about a double-digit home loss, and Freeze has been absolutely lambasted in both national and local media for it. He’s already been heavily criticized for throwing his quarterbacks under the bus in his postgame comments, but this level of sore loser-ness is low even for Freeze. He needs to put down the shovel and stop digging.

The Razorbacks social media team decided to have some fun with Freeze’s comments on Tuesday:

With that, we’re on to the Aggies. Texas A&M, like Auburn, is on their second quarterback of the year. Marcel Reed is a good runner and unpolished passer, much like Taylen Green. Over at Best of Arkansas Sports, I took a close look into matchup keys for Hogs-Aggies, including how Aggie OC Collin Klein will try to use Reed to frustrate the Razorback defense. Be sure to check it out!

Other games of note

Oklahoma at Auburn (2:30 pm, ABC, Oklahoma -2.5). Two teams with unclear quarterback situations face off on the Plains. Auburn’s issues are well-documented, but the Sooners aren’t doing so well either. Former 5-star QB Jackson Arnold hasn’t looked good yet this year and was finally benched in Saturday’s loss to Tennessee.

Georgia at Alabama (6:30 pm, ABC, Georgia -2). It’s the first truly huge Alabama game of the post-Saban era. The Tide dominated Wisconsin, but the Badgers aren’t very good. Can Alabama remain among the inner circle of elite teams under Kalen De Boer? This game will be the start of us finding out.
