The Week Ahead: Week 4

Adam Ford

Arkansas’ brutal four-game stretch away from home starts on Saturday with a road game against LSU. The Hogs are 17.5-point underdogs. I do expect a bounceback performance in terms of crazy mistakes, but it’s hard to bounce back to from being as bad as Arkansas is on the offensive line. And it’s hard for KJ Jefferson to be what he’s not.

We’ll preview LSU later in the week, but feel free to review our thoughts on Arkansas’ offensive woes and what it means for the program’s future.

Other Games to Watch

Auburn at Texas A&M (11 am, ESPN). Auburn’s offense has been extremely shaky, but Texas A&M’s defense was awful against Miami. The Aggie offensive line is also a weakness. The Tigers probably lack the star power to pull off the upset, but don’t be surprised if it’s a tough one.

Ole Miss at Alabama (2:30 pm, CBS). Alabama is (predictably) going back to Jalen Milroe after trying other options in a disastrous win over South Florida. Ole Miss has looked really sharp, but the competition has been questionable (Tulane’s starting QB was out). The dynasty may really be over if the Tide lose a second home game in September.

BYU at Kansas (2:30 pm, ESPN). We’ll learn exactly how bad to feel after this one. The Jayhawks are a popular pick to win seven or eight games and already punked Bret Bielema and Illinois, so this would be a monster win for BYU. If Kansas wins easily… then yikes.

Memphis at Mizzou (6:30 pm, ESPNU). Mizzou got a huge win over Kansas State, but don’t forget how ugly they looked against Middle Tennessee. Memphis is no slouch. This will probably be a tough game.

Mississippi State at South Carolina (6:30 pm, SEC Network). State’s a mess and is a legitimate candidate for a Hog victory on October 21st. Their transition to a new offensive coordinator has been lightyears worse than Arkansas’, as the former Air Raid team is now dead-last in the SEC in passing yards. The Gamecocks have issues of their own – they can’t protect Spencer Rattler – but they’re favored to win this one. I’ll root for Carolina because I tend to think that Arkansas really needs to remain head-and-shoulders above State in the SEC West pecking order… even if the “West” is in fact going away starting next year.

UCF at Kansas State (7 pm, FS1). No reason.
